Why I'm here

I'm 46 years old and I've been working out religiously for almost 3 years. I wasn't extremely overweight but the idea of a Wii bot labeling me as 'obese' tore me up inside just enough to do something about it. I started in April of 2009 trying to shred those extra lbs by adding exercise to my schedule. Now due to the peer pressures of blogging, I thought I'd share some of my journey here on 'paper' whether it be my triathlon experiences or any other form of ridiculousness that I put myself through.

Where have you been?

"You haven't been here so you've obviously been somewhere. Where have you been?"

Yeah, it's been a long time since I've posted a blog entry. Busy, busy, busy after the big move! Things have been going very well. I seemed to have easily and comfortably figured out my role here in this new home. I was very fortunate to be able to keep my job in Providence and am working from home! It isn't for everybody, but apparently it suits me well. And the cats...well they have just as easily figured out how to make themselves comfortable here...kitty litter is evenly distributed about the house, little trinkets of carpet found here and there, hair particles haphazardly floating around through the air waiting to land (most likely on food or black clothing) with another vacuum cleaner de-clogging session surely evident in the near future. We've all adjusted quite nicely...only to last for about another 4 months. Just when I was starting to enjoy flaunting my mid-January shorts and t-shirts to my friends up North, it's time to move again! I knew this was coming but I was at least hoping the move would be to somewhere warm again! It's nice to be able to store away the trainer and ride and run outside year round! Alas, no warm move this time. We're headed to Dayton, Ohio where I hear it was -13 degrees last week. There's a reason I'm in San Antonio and it doesn't involve sub-zero temps. Yeehaw. The frozen tundra will be upon us.

There is so much to look forward to this coming year (besides this impending move)!

We're headed to Monterey, Ca in April to tie that proverbial knot. That knot that I never thought I'd go near again. It was supposed to be just the two of us on a beach with a witness but has since, in the last couple of weeks, turned into a family affair. Unescapably, parents and children will also be in attendance. I'll admit that the thought of "eloping" (even though everyone knows) was appealing to me, i.e., not having to worry about anyone else, how they were going to get places, what to tell them to wear, where to meet us for breakfast/lunch/dinner...you get the point. But I'm much happier now knowing that we'll be surrounded by family on such an important day.

I'm headed back up North for a few weeks to spend time with my son right after Memorial Weekend! I was able to score a small apartment on the East Side for the two of us. It allows me to spend time with him while he's out of school and also gives his father a break from the action. I'm really looking forward to seeing some friends!

June is our move to Dayton. Another cross country travel session with 2 cats is really something you only want to experience once. Trust me. My cats are nocturnal so you'd think that sleeping all day in the car would be the best possible scenario, right? Think again when you're lying in the hotel room trying to go to sleep and 2 cats are chasing each other around the room, across the bed, into the bathroom then onto the dresser, wrestling in between each lap. No sleep was had during those travels.

In October, we're headed onto an Eastern Carribean cruise with friends (leaving out of Houston, go figure). It's so far away that I can't even remember where we're stopping but what I can remember is that there is a $1000 prize for the best Halloween costume. We know how that will go...I will be $1000 richer when I step off that boat!

Lots of great things going on this year for us! I miss my friends but there will be lots of opportunities to see them in the upcoming months.
